The Dead Sea Preservation Government Company Ltd

About

The Dead Sea Preservation Government Company Ltd. is a government company fully owned by the State of Israel which acts as the Ministry of Tourism’s executive arm in order to plan, implement, and lead short term and long term solutions for the problem of rising sea levels along the western shore of the industrial pond in the Dead Sea’s southern basin.

In the summer of 2007, due to the fear of flooding hotels along the pond’s shore, the government announced the “Dead Sea Preservation” project as a project of national importance, thus granting the Dead Sea Preservation Government Company the mandate to promote and execute urgent works for protection.

Alongside these works, long term alternatives were examined by foremost experts and consultants in a variety of fields (infrastructure, environment, landscape, and so on) and a methodical process commenced – a process of consolidating recommendations regarding the optimal solution to protect the shoreline, the hotels, and the shoreline infrastructures.

In January 2012 the integrated alternative of “full salt harvest” was selected by the government as the permanent solution alongside the rehabilitation and development of the tourist center, all with the stated purpose of creating a balance between the needs of tourism, industry, and residents in the region.

Following this government decision, Dead Sea Works are advancing a plan to perform the full harvest at the National Infrastructure Committee (National Infrastructure Plan /35 A) and the Dead Sea Preservation Government Company is performing all of the harvest’s complementary shoreline protections alongside the spearheading of a new plan for the tourism center.

The company is operating with a national view, in maximum collaboration and coordination with all of the parties participating in and related to the preservation project (national infrastructure companies, governmental offices, tourism, industry, the planning authority, environmentalist groups and so on).
